I'm concerned that climate change and the associated sea level rise and increased storm intensity/frequency will cause additional panic in the insurance industry, spurring further rate increases and driving many coastal residents to leave their homes.

Rising sea levels combined with hurricanes is my concern. There are so many low-lying areas today. Sea level rise, plus a high tide, plus a storm surge is a maximum problem. You can batten down a home against the wind, but rising water is going to come in. Homes arent build to withstand a flood of a certain depth. Vents under homes would have them inundated quickly. Lets move to higher ground, like Asheville, NC.

I'm concerned about local transportation infrastructure and my ability to get from my home to anywhere else. The accessibility of roads determines much of what I do and where I go and if those roads are impacted by sea level rise, my ability to get somewhere is impacted.

My concern is that flawed political climates will overcome sound ethical thinking with respect to climate change and planning for potential impacts and preserving open space.

I'm worried that as we grow we are not taking into consideration the long term inpacts of that development as it related to coastal hazards and sea level rise. Also, that we are not prepared for how we would handle the next coastal disaster and the mitigation that comes after.

Concerned that the increase in population and growth in the region will lead to the degradation of our coastal resources - the very resources that people come to the area for.

I worry about the health of my children, if I decide to have a family. Our generation is probably fine, but our lack of concern for the future is sickening. Ask yourself whose air are you ruining - yours or your grandchildren's?

Background

A recent study by George Mason University revealed that a majority of American adults consider climate change a serious problem that threatens future generations and all life on earth. Only 14% of the adults surveyed did NOT think climate change is a problem. To reach our goal of creating resilient communities in the tri-county region we want to know what concerns people living and working in the region. Your input will help guide project teams' research and analysis. Ultimately this work will help coastal communities become stronger and better prepared for the changes ahead.
